With peanut butter fudge truffles, raspberry caramels and peppermint bark vying for her attention, Lorna Fontana, 12, had a difficult decision to make as she pressed her face to the glass counter at JoMart Chocolates like a kid, well, in a candy store.

Her father, Michael Fontana, inhaled the sweet air of the confectionery, in the small Brooklyn neighborhood of Madison, near Marine Park.

“This place is the best,” said Mr. Fontana, the music director of the nearby Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church. “You can tell what’s made here is made with love.”
