A 57-year-old man was found dead in his Chelsea apartment Friday evening, his mouth and hands bound with duct tape, the police said.
A friend discovered the man, whose name the police have not yet released because his family has not been notified, unconscious inside the man’s studio apartment on West 22nd Street and called 911, the police said. Officers and paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead on arrival. The police said the studio apartment was ransacked.
The body showed no signs of additional trauma, the police said, but they classified the death as a homicide. The medical examiner has not yet determined the cause of death.
