Brooklyn City Councilman Is Fined

City Councilman Vincent J. Gentile of Brooklyn was fined nearly $27,000 by the city’s Campaign Finance Board on Thursday, with most of the fine — $25,757 — for exceeding spending limits in the 2009 election.

Mr. Gentile, a Democrat who represents Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst and environs, went $18,000 over the $161,000 limit for candidates who participate in the Campaign Finance Program, which provides matching funds, the finance board said. He was also cited for failing to promptly file daily expenditure reports in the home stretch of the campaign and for accepting donations from corporate entities.

Another councilman, Ydanis Rodriguez, Democrat of Washington Heights, was fined $4,750 for various accounting and spending-limit violations.
