I was trying to get into the Holland Tunnel in the late afternoon during rush hour and was stuck on Varick Street, inching toward the entrance, when an attractive woman in her early 20s knocked on my passenger window. I was startled, but she seemed very interested in speaking to me, so I opened my car window, curious about what she might have in mind.
To my astonishment, she scolded me for not being aggressive enough in my driving! She told me that I was being too submissive, allowing other cars and trucks to break into “our lane.” She told me to toughen up and keep the traffic moving in our lane.
She walked back and got into the passenger side of her S.U.V., having felt that she had done her civic duty to keep me “in line!”
