Governor Cuomo to Be Subject of a Biography

A new – if inevitable — subgenre of New York political literature has arrived: the Andrew M. Cuomo biography.

Grand Central Publishing, an imprint of the Hachette Book Group, announced Thursday that it would publish what it described as a “an exhaustive, detailed look at the New York State governor’s life, from his early days running his father Mario’s first gubernatorial election campaign in 1982 to the present.”

Called “The Son Also Rises: A First Biography of Andrew Cuomo,” the book is being written by Michael Shnayerson, a longtime contributing editor at Vanity Fair. A publication date has not been set for the unauthorized biography.

Mr. Shnayerson is the author of four nonfiction books, including “Coal River,” an account of the fight against mountaintop coal mining in Appalachia. He most recently collaborated with Harry Belafonte on his memoir, “My Song.”
