Woman, 89, Killed When Truck Hits Crowd in Harlem

An 89-year-old woman was killed on Thursday and three other pedestrians injured when a pickup truck hit a livery car and caromed onto the sidewalk at the corner of West 145th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard in Harlem, the police said. The livery-car driver was also injured.

About 12:10 p.m., the livery car was headed north on Powell and turning left onto 145th when the pickup, traveling south on Powell, struck it, the police said. The woman, Leonia White, who lived three blocks away, was declared dead at Harlem Hospital Center.

The other injured people were in stable condition. No charges have been filed, the police said.
