A woman staying at the Waldorf-Astoria was arrested in the lobby of the Manhattan hotel on Saturday morning after a security officer spotted a pistol jutting out of her jacket pocket, the police said.
The woman, who was wearing a pink bikini bottom over her slacks, admitted to a security officer that she was carrying the weapon, an unloaded Beretta, according to the police.
The police identified the woman as Marilyn M. Michose, 46, of Danbury, Conn. She was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center in Queens for psychiatric evaluation.
After spotting the pistol, the hotel security officer approached and asked Ms.Michose if she was carrying a firearm, a law enforcement official said. She answered, “I have a gun.”
There was no violence, and she was “not struggling,” said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is continuing.
Police officers arrived shortly after 9 a.m. and took Ms. Michose into custody.
It was unclear if the pistol was registered to her, the official said.
A woman who answered the telephone at the hotel on Saturday referred calls to a hotel spokesman. The spokesman did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
