Ten Years On, Remembering a Day of Grief and Horror

A decade later, in a city and a nation transformed, Sept. 11 dawned in the year 2011 and the loved ones of the dead gathered beside where the Twin Towers stood to repeat a memory lesson that harnessed still-raw emotion to factual accounting: the reciting of the names of the 2,983 victims of the terror attacks of 2001.

They did so in the shadow of a new World Trade Center, that now rises 961 feet above the street where thousands fell, and beside the reflecting pools cast in the Twin Towers’ footprints that anchor a new national memorial museum.

Stay with us through the morning and into the afternoon for live updates to this post from the site and the tenth anniversary ceremony.
